Just had a major overflow with my first kimchi batch

Tbh, I got overconfident and packed a 2-gallon crock way too full last Tuesday, and it bubbled over all night onto my kitchen counter. Honestly, I just scooped the overflow back in and wiped everything down with vinegar, but now I'm worried about contamination. Has anyone else salvaged a batch after a mess like this?

You scooped it BACK IN? From the counter? Girl, my brain just short-circuited. That's like next level bravery or a total lapse in sanity. My counter has seen raw chicken juice and unidentifiable sticky spots. I would have just cried over the lost batch and started over.

Wait, are you saying you used to be one of those "toss it the second it hits the floor" types too? I was totally with you before, like I'd never eat anything off the counter. But after hearing folks talk about the five second rule and seeing how clean my counters actually are, I'm honestly rethinking it. Not saying I'm gonna start scooping dropped stuff back in, but you kinda made me curious.

Ever heard of the five second rule? Listen, if your counter is clean and you scraped it up fast, it's probably fine. I've done it with cookie dough and lived to tell the tale. Just make sure you cook whatever it is all the way through. Starting over is a waste of good ingredients if you ask me.
