I used to think those plastic post caps were just for looks

A client in Austin insisted on them for a cedar fence I built last month, and after a week of heavy rain, the posts are bone dry inside. What other small add-ons have you guys found actually matter?

My buddy skipped the metal corner braces on a shed build, said screws were enough. One good wind storm later and the whole thing was leaning like a drunk. What's the smallest thing you've seen make a big difference?
