Had to choose between a post hole digger and a shovel for a job in Savannah

The ground was pure Georgia clay, and I thought the shovel would be fine for just eight holes. I was wrong, and my arms felt like jelly for two days. Anyone have a good rental spot for a two-person auger down here?

Man, that Georgia clay is no joke. It's like trying to dig through wet concrete once it dries a little. Tbh, I made the same mistake last spring and my back was wrecked. You should check out the Sunbelt Rentals over on Abercorn, they usually have that kind of gear.

Actually found that clay easier to work with once it dries, dylan124. You get a cleaner edge for planting.

Dry clay is the worst. Breaks a shovel handle like it's nothing. Had to replace mine twice last summer. Renting gear is smart, but sometimes you just need to wait for a good rain. Softens it right up.
