Rant: Coworking in Medellin is not what I expected

I always thought coworking spaces in Medellin would be like party hostels with WiFi. But last month I checked out Selina in El Poblado and it was dead silent at 10am. Everyone had noise canceling headphones and zero eye contact. It felt more like a library than the social hub I imagined. Has anyone else found a spot there where people actually talk to each other?

Yo the makers spot is legit, I went there last month and the ping pong table does the heavy lifting for breaking the ice. Once you hear that ball bouncing people just naturally start watching and next thing you know you're in a doubles match with strangers. Selina is for people who want to pretend they're grinding for their Instagram story, not for actual networking. If you show up to Makers around 4pm on a Thursday a bunch of the remote workers start heading to the beer fridge and it turns into a totally different scene. Just gotta know the right timing because even there it gets dead quiet in the morning hours.

Blame the setup, not the people. These coworking spaces are designed like offices now, not like cafes or common rooms. They put in soundproof booths and private phone rooms and that changes the whole vibe. If you want conversation, hit up a communal table at Cafe Velvet in Laureles around 3pm when the laptop crowd starts to loosen up. The best social coworking I found was actually at a place called Makers on via 34 where they have a literal ping pong table in the middle of the room.
