My coworking space buddy's advice about public WiFi saved me $400

So this guy Mike I met at a coworking space in Chiang Mai last month told me I was crazy for using Starbucks WiFi for client calls. He showed me his little travel router setup (like a $30 GL.iNet thing) and said it encrypts everything. I figured he was just being paranoid until I logged into my bank account at a cafe in Bali and someone tried to drain my PayPal the next day. $400 gone before I caught it. Now I use that same router he recommended. Has anyone else had a close call with sketchy WiFi?

Dude that's rough, $400 is a brutal lesson. I had someone steal my Uber login at a hostel in Mexico and rack up $200 in rides, so yeah I'm all about that travel router life now lol.

Goddamn @josephs26, $200 on Uber in Mexico? That's wild. Did they take you on a tour of the whole country or just to a bunch of tacquerias? I'm surprised you didn't have a heart attack seeing that charge pop up on your phone.
