Just lost $400 on a 'co-living' space in Medellin that was basically a scam

Booked a month online, the photos looked great. Showed up and the place was a mess, the wifi barely worked, and the 'community manager' ghosted after the first day. Had to find a last minute Airbnb which cost way more. In my experience, if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Has anyone else had a nightmare with a co-living setup they booked remotely? How do you vet them properly?

That exact thing happened to a friend in Medellin last year, same price point too. It's a brutal lesson to learn the hard way. I've started asking for a live video walkthrough before I book anything now. A real person showing the actual unit and the common areas on a video call tells you more than any photo ever could.

I once booked a place in Lisbon that had a "gym" which was just a single broken treadmill in a closet. The video walkthrough idea is smart, wish I'd done that.
