Just lost $200 on a coworking space that looked great online
I got to Medellin last month and booked a month at a coworking spot based on their website photos. It showed a bright, quiet room with fast wifi. The reality was a cramped basement with one window, and the internet dropped every 20 minutes. I couldn't join video calls without freezing. I paid $200 upfront for the month, thinking it was a smart move to secure a spot. After two days of failed work, I had to leave and find a cafe, wasting that money. It taught me to always ask for a day pass first, no matter how good the photos look. Has anyone else been burned by a shiny online coworking ad in a new city?

Ugh, that's the worst. I mean, I got tricked by a place in Lisbon that looked amazing, all white walls and plants. Turned out the "fast wifi" was shared with the whole apartment building above it. My trick now is to check Google Maps photos uploaded by users, not the business. Those are almost always the real deal. I'll even look for ones that show people working, so you can see the actual space and not the staged shot. Saved me a couple times since.

Check the photos for power outlets too, they're often missing in the pretty shots.
