Debate: Coworking spaces vs coffee shops for real focus work

I swear my focus split right down the middle after 4 months of bouncing between coworking spaces and coffee shops. At first, coffee shops were my jam. Cheap, fast wifi, easy to grab a latte while I code. But around month 3, I noticed I was only getting about 2 hours of real work before noise or thirst killed my flow. So I dropped $150 on a coworking desk in Chiang Mai. First week, I was cranking out 6 hour deep sessions. The quiet zones and dedicated desk were amazing. But by month 6, I started missing the buzz. No random chats or people watching to break up the day. Now I split my week 3 days coffee shops, 2 days coworking. Anyone else find a mix that works better?

2 week cycles? That's wild, I never thought about letting your brain fully forget the environment before switching back. Honestly that makes a lot of sense.

Nobody's talking about how your BRAIN chemistry actually changes with each environment over time. Coffee shops spike dopamine at first but crash hard after a few weeks because the novelty wears off and your brain starts tuning out the background noise. Coworking spaces give you that calm beta wave focus but eventually your brain gets bored from the lack of stimulation. The real trick is to switch before your brain gets used to either one. I do 2 week cycles instead of mixing days and it works way better for keeping that deep focus alive.
