Tried a 70% pay cut for a freelance logo job, got way more than money

I quoted $1,200 for a bakery logo in Austin, they countered with $350 and I took it out of curiosity, but the owner sent me five new client referrals by the next Tuesday, so has anyone else had a lowball gig turn into a better network than the big payouts?

Taking the lowball was smart, but the real win is that she liked you enough to send referrals. Most clients who pay full price just take your invoice and vanish. A referral from someone who got a steal makes you look like a hero to their friends, not a bargain bin. Plus, those five new clients might pay your normal rate, so you basically bought a marketing campaign for $850 off. I'd do that trade again every week.
