The weirdest before-and-after I noticed in my own apartment layout

I used to have my desk shoved up against the wall in my bedroom, staring at the blank drywall for two years while I worked. Last month I got sick of it and just pulled the desk six feet into the room so it faces the window. It is not even a great view, just some trees outside my building in Denver. But the difference in how I feel sitting there is wild. I catch myself looking up and noticing the sky change color at sunset now instead of zoning out at a beige wall. Actually caught my neighbor's cat chilling on the fire escape last week and laughed out loud. Has anyone else found that one furniture move that totally shifted their mood during the workday?

Yeah, moving my reading chair closer to the window did the same thing for me.

You mentioned "trees outside" and "sky change color" like that's supposed to be calming, but honestly that sounds distracting as hell to me. I tried facing a window once and spent half my time watching people walk their dogs and tracking squirrels instead of actually getting work done. After a week I moved back to the wall and put up a corkboard with random stuff on it instead. My brain just needs less going on in the background to focus, not more reminders that life is happening outside. Different strokes though, if staring at a neighbor's cat makes you laugh then maybe you needed that break.
