The SA at Neiman Marcus told me patent leather never cracks, 8 months later it did

I bought a patent leather crossbody at the Neiman Marcus in Scottsdale back in January, around $650 after tax. The sales associate swore up and down that patent leather was basically indestructible, so I stopped conditioning it and treated it rough. By September the front flap had fine cracks along the fold lines, and the store said it's normal wear. Anyone else get bad care advice from store staff that ended up costing you more in the long run?

Got a friend who bought a designer tote from Saks and the sales lady told her the leather was so tough she could throw it under a bus. So she did, well not literally, but she stopped being careful with it. Set it on the floor at concerts, tossed it in the car trunk with groceries, the whole deal. Six months later the corners were all worn down and the strap started peeling at the seams. Store said same thing, wear and tear, not their problem. She paid like $400 to get it fixed at a cobbler and now she treats everything they say with a grain of salt. Kind of wild how these folks just make stuff up to close a sale. You think there's any way to hold them accountable for advice that bad?
