My aunt's advice about buying black bags was completely backwards

She collects vintage Coach and always said to avoid any black leather because the dye fades unevenly and shows wear too fast. So for years I only bought brown and tan bags. Last summer I got a black Prada from 2007 at a consignment shop in Portland for $180. The leather is beat up but the color held fine, just some softening at the corners. Meanwhile my tan Dooney from 2019 has dark splotches where my hands touch it constantly. Her rule made sense in theory but the tan bag looks way worse now. Anyone else get handed a care rule that just does not hold up with modern leathers?

Wait until you see what 90s black patent leather does after ten years, that Prada is the exception not the rule.
