Just lost 6 hours to a font that wouldn't embed

I was putting together a client deck in InDesign and the PDF kept coming out with missing glyphs. Took me from 9am to 3pm yesterday to figure out it was a licensing issue with a free Google Font that got converted to outlines wrong on export. Has anyone else had a similar hangup with font embedding in newer versions of InDesign?

Last time that happened to me I just deleted the font and switched to a system font like Arial for the whole deck. Cost me an hour but at least I knew it would work. Now I always check the embed permissions before I even start laying out.
