Finally picked smart guides over snapping to grid in Figma...

I spent like two years always using the grid snap for everything and it felt fine but I kept fighting it when I wanted to place stuff just slightly off. Last week I finally switched to smart guides only and it's crazy how much smoother my layouts come together now. Things like aligning icons to text or centering a button inside a card just happen naturally without me having to nudge it pixel by pixel. I was worried I'd lose all my structure but honestly the guides are smart enough to keep things clean. Only took me one project to get used to it. Has anyone else made this switch and stuck with it?

I read somewhere that smart guides were actually designed to replicate how designers naturally think about spacing, and once I heard that it clicked for me. The grid always felt like training wheels after that.

Smart guides are fine but people overthink this stuff. It's just a tool, @adams82, not some deep philosophy about how we're meant to work.
