A client's offhand comment about my wireframes saved me 2 days of edits

I was showing a landing page mockup to a client in Denver and they said 'this looks nice but I can't tell what I'm supposed to click first.' That hit me hard because I'd spent 3 hours on visual polish but zero on visual hierarchy. So I went back and made the primary button bigger, gave it a solid contrast shadow, and moved the secondary link way down the page. Now I run every layout through a quick 'single glance' check before sending it out. Has anyone else had a client point out something so basic you felt stupid for missing it?

Man I feel this one deep in my bones. I had a client once look at a website draft and ask me if the big red rectangle was an ad or the checkout button, which was when I realized I had basically built a billboard for confusion. You spend forever tweaking fonts and shadows and colors, but totally forget that a person's eye needs a dang map. Now I do the squint test where I blur my eyes and see what pops first, and if it's not the main action, I start over. It's funny how the people who don't know anything about design are the ones who point out the obvious stuff we're too close to see.
