Was dead wrong about "hiring a design consultant" for my freelance work, thought it was a total scam
A year ago I saw someone charging $200 for a 45 minute call to "review your portfolio" and I laughed. Figured it was just noise from people trying to make a quick buck. Then my buddy Greg in Austin paid for one and showed me the feedback. The consultant pointed out 3 things: my case studies were way too long, I was hiding my best work at the bottom, and my bio sounded like a robot wrote it. I did a free trial call with a different person last month and honestly it was worth it just for the one tip about leading with the result instead of the process. My portfolio landing page got reorganized that weekend. Has anyone else changed their mind on these paid review services after actually trying one?

Isn't it weird how paying someone forces you to actually listen to their advice?

Noticed the same thing with gym trainers and even cooking classes @jordangibson - once you pay, suddenly you stop skipping the hard advice and actually follow through on it.
