Thought portfolio critique groups were just people being nice until I got ripped apart
I posted my UX case study in a design feedback Discord last month expecting some light tips and instead got 15 detailed callouts about my user flow gaps and inconsistent icon sizes. It stung at first but I realized the harsh feedback actually fixed two problems that had been bugging me for weeks. Has anyone else had a critique session that felt brutal but ended up being the most helpful thing for your portfolio?

Buddy of mine submitted his architecture portfolio to a panel and got told his "design language was incoherent" - took him a week to stop fuming but he completely reworked it and landed his dream job three months later.
