Recruiter criticized my font choices on a call last week

I was on a video call with a hiring manager from a startup in Austin last Thursday and she told me my portfolio used 'too many different typefaces' - she counted like 5 on one project page. I thought mixing serif for headers and sans for body was standard practice but she doubled down and said it looked messy. Anyone else get weird specific feedback from a recruiter that made you rethink your whole approach?

too many different typefaces" ok real talk was she looking at your work or counting fonts like a hall monitor? I gotta ask - did you actually think the page looked clean before she said that or were you already kinda iffy on it yourself? Cause mixing serifs with sans doesn't automatically = messy but if she counted 5 that's probably like 3 too many unless you were doing something super creative on purpose. Were they all clashing or just different?

Roll my eyes so hard they almost got stuck. Next time bring a font color wheel and offer to teach her a masterclass on Helvetica history.
