Yeah my buddy had that happen at a portfolio review in Dallas. He said it felt awful at first but he ended up redoing his whole layout and it actually got him a job later.

Ever think about what that creative director's own portfolio looked like when they were starting out? I saw a talk once where a big shot showed his early work, and it was honestly pretty bad (like, clip art bad). Sometimes the harshest critics forget their own learning curve. Maybe check if that person posts any old projects online, just to remember everyone starts somewhere.

Oof, that sounds rough. I got torn apart at a review once too. Taking the notes that actually made sense and ignoring the mean stuff helped me fix my weak spots.
