My "foolproof" resume template got me zero callbacks in 3 months
I spent weeks perfecting this clean, minimalist resume layout with nice typography and proper spacing. Thought it looked way better than those boring old word docs everyone uses. After 3 months and maybe 40 applications, I got literally zero responses. Finally asked a recruiter friend in Austin to look at it and she said the ATS system couldn't even read half my info because of the columns I used. Now I'm back to a basic single column layout with no fancy formatting - feels like going backwards but at least I'm getting interviews again. Anyone else had their design choices actually hurt their chances like this?

Quit blaming your resume. Maybe your applications just weren't that strong.

Man, I used to be the SAME way, always pointing fingers at my resume format or whatever. But after reading your take, I really sat down and looked at my old applications with fresh eyes. You're absolutely right, it hurt to admit it but my writing and experience pitch just wasn't cutting it.
