Just realized my $60 font license saved me from a $900 lawsuit

Grabbed a free font off some random site for a client pitch, then remembered commercial use is a trap. Paid $60 for the proper license last month, turns out the free one was pirated. My contact at the foundry in Chicago confirmed it, sent me the legit file in 2 hours. Anyone else ever almost got burned by font licensing on a portfolio piece?

Always run a quick license check on anything you didn't buy directly from the foundry. That two hour turnaround saved you way more than the sixty bucks.
