Feedback that made me redo my entire UX case study layout

Last month a senior designer in Chicago told me my case study read like a novel with zero scannable results. I had all the process steps but buried the metrics in paragraphs. Changed the layout to put key numbers like '35% conversion lift' right at the top in bold cards. Has anyone else had to kill their darlings after a brutal critique?

I mean, "reads like a novel" is honestly a pretty generous critique considering most novels at least have chapter breaks, right? But yeah, burying your big numbers in paragraphs is like hiding the punchline of a joke. I had a similar moment where someone told me my portfolio looked like a diary entry with too much "and then I felt" energy. Now I just slap the biggest number front and center like a billboard, and maybe throw in a tiny sentence of explanation if I'm feeling generous.

Those numbers need context or they just look like random bragging.
