Crop tool habit I didn't notice for 18 months

I was putting together a UX case study for a job application and kept wondering why my mockups looked cramped. Turned out I was cropping every single screenshot to 4:3 because of an old PowerPoint template I used back in school. Anybody else have a default setting that secretly messed up your portfolio pieces?

That thing I read about how people set their canvas size once and never change it hit close to home. I had the same problem with my work for like a year because my first design job had a strict 16:9 template rule and I just got stuck in that mindset. It didn't matter what I was making, everything had to fit that box. I only realized it when someone pointed out my mobile designs looked squished compared to the real apps. Old habits from templates or past jobs can really lock you into a bad workflow without you noticing.

My buddy once spent six months designing everything square-shaped without realizing it.
