Compared two portfolio layouts side by side and the grid won every time

I rebuilt my portfolio with a full bleed hero image last week and then swapped it for a simple 3 column grid. The grid got way more clicks on my case studies, like 40% more in the first 3 days. Has anyone else tested different layouts and seen a clear winner?

Test how much of that 40% lift came just from moving the case studies above the fold with the grid instead of having them buried below the hero image. If your full bleed layout pushed all the content down, the layout change might not be the real reason. Did you compare click rates on just the content that was visible in both layouts?

Maybe it's just me but that feels like overthinking a pretty good result. 40% is 40% regardless of where the case studies ended up sitting. I mean if they were buried before and now they're not, isn't that kind of the whole point of the redesign anyway? Feels like you could spend forever trying to untangle which part of the layout caused what. Sometimes a win is just a win without needing to dissect every pixel.
