Client asked for a 'pop' and I added 14 icons, now I'm wondering if restraint is dead

Honestly, last Tuesday I had a small bakery client in Austin who kept saying her logo needed to 'pop' more. I added 14 little coffee cup icons along the header thinking it'd show range. She loved it, but then her regular customers started calling the menu cluttered and she pulled the whole design after 3 days. Tbh, I keep going back and forth on whether we should push clients to trust white space or give them exactly what they ask for. Has anyone else had a client request that wrecked their layout and made them question their own taste?
