Why do so many people send printers files at 72 dpi and then act shocked when it looks soft
I do small batch print work out of my garage in Dayton and three clients this month sent me files pulled straight off a website at 72 dpi. One was a 24 by 36 inch poster and the logo was so blocky I had to redraw the whole thing by hand. People see it look crisp on their screen and assume the file is fine, but screens lie, the pixels just get stretched at print size. I always ask for the original vector or a 300 dpi file at full size now, and half the time nobody knows where the original even is. Anyone got a nice way to explain dpi to clients without sounding like a know it all?
