Vector vs. raster for large format signs - learned the hard way

I spent 3 hours last week building a 6-foot banner in Photoshop at 300 DPI and the file was 2 GB. Switched to Illustrator with vector art and it took 15 minutes to finish the same thing. Why are people still insisting on raster for big prints?

Wait but honestly it depends on the artwork lol. If you're doing solid logos, type heavy layouts, or simple gradients then yeah vector is hands down faster. But if you're working with complex photo composites, paint textures, or detailed shadows, raster is still the only way to get that look right without tearing your hair out. I tried converting a photo heavy banner with smoke and sparkle effects to vector once and it looked like a bad cartoon from the 90s. So I think it's less about raster vs vector and more about knowing what your actual art needs.
