Tried metallic ink on a small business card run...
I've been doing print work on the side for about a year mostly for friends and local shops. Last month a buddy asked me to print 250 business cards for his handyman service. He wanted something that stood out so I figured why not try metallic gold ink for the logo. I set it up on my little home press and ran a test sheet and it came out looking like dirty yellow streaks. Took me three more tries adjusting the pressure and ink tack before it finally laid down smooth. The final batch turned out way better than I expected. The metallic catches light just right and it actually makes the cards feel premium. I learned that metallic ink needs way more babying than regular stuff especially on darker stock. Has anyone else had luck with metallic on uncoated paper?

You read that metallic ink on uncoated stock is basically a ticking time bomb right? I saw a forum post where a guy said his gold ink rubbed off on every single card he handed out after like a week. He ended up having to trash the whole run. I think you got lucky getting it smooth at all. Might be worth a test where you rub a finished card against a white sheet to see if it flakes. Would hate to see a whole batch go bad after all that setup work you did.

Did you end up sealing the cards at all after the metallic layer? I tried gold on uncoated stock once and it kind of rubbed off on people's fingers after a few days, real bummer for a premium look.
