Spot UV logos on matte stock, why do people keep ruining the subtle look
Honestly, I keep seeing print shops push spot UV on every matte business card order like it's the default finish. Last week a customer in Austin asked for a simple minimalist logo and the vendor added a glossy raised coat over the whole thing without asking, turned it into a shiny mess. Ngl, is there a way to make them understand it's supposed to be a contrast accent, not a full flood coat? Am I the only one fighting this?
What worked for me was asking the press guy to show me a proof with the UV marked off in a specific spot before anything got coated. Once he actually saw the logo by itself with just a small raised area, he got it. Now I send a little mockup image with the logo circled and the rest labeled "no UV" and it hasn't come back wrong since. Took me three ruined batches to figure that out lol. The thing is most shops just run whatever the ticket says, and if the ticket is vague they flood it because it's faster. So be annoying about it on the order form, write it in caps if you have to.
