Spent 5 years centering things by eye before a coworker pointed out my mistake

At a print shop in Austin, I was manually adjusting logos on business cards for years, always thinking I had a good eye for centering. Then a new designer named Jess walked over and showed me how alignment guides in Illustrator could do it perfectly in one click. I felt dumb but also relieved, because I had been wasting so much time. Has anyone else had a moment where a simple tool made you rethink your whole process?

That tool is a lifesaver. It's crazy how much time we waste doing things the hard way when the software already has a built in solution.

Depends on the tool, honestly. I've seen plenty of "lifesavers" that turned out to be more trouble than they were worth once you really put them through the wringer. Some of those built in solutions are great for basic stuff but fall apart when your project gets a little weird or specific. And five years is a long time if the old way was working fine and nobody was complaining about turnaround times. Your mileage may vary, but I'd want to know what kind of edge cases this tool handles before I called it a miracle worker.

Wait, wait - you spent FIVE YEARS doing that by hand and nobody said anything until Jess? That's wild! I mean, I get that we all have our blind spots and habits we fall into, but I can't believe nobody else at the shop ever casually mentioned the alignment tools over all that time.
