Pantone book in the attic was 14 years outdated and my client noticed

Found my old Pantone guide from 2010 up there and used it to match a logo for a bakery in Tulsa, but the printer's new edition shifted every single swatch so the sign came out orange when it should've been coral, now I'm eating the $300 reprint cost, anyone else keep an old fan deck around and regret it?

Wait, you actually trusted a 2010 fan deck for a client job? I mean, I get it, we all got that old book buried somewhere, but Pantone changes their formulas all the time, like every couple years they tweak the ink recipes. I had a similar thing happen with a business card job back in 2018, I used an old coated guide from 2012 and the "navy" I picked came out looking like a dark purple, the client was not happy. The worst part is you can't even blame the printer because they used the current standard, it's totally on you for not checking the edition before you sent it. Now I just keep a sticky note on my old deck that says "DECORATION ONLY" so I don't grab it by accident, but honestly, I should probably just throw it in the trash.
