My old design professor insisted we stick to a 2-color palette for everything
Professor Miller at the community college in Bakersfield was adamant about it, saying it built discipline and saved on print costs. I followed that rule for my first five freelance jobs, turning down clients who wanted more. Then a local brewery wanted a vibrant, 4-color poster, and I realized I was limiting myself for no good reason. Anyone else get hung up on a 'rule' from school that the real world just doesn't follow?

Remember the five paragraph essay?

It trained us to argue, not think.

Oh man, that hits hard. I got so good at building a case for any side of a topic, I forgot how to pick one I actually believe in. Murphy.lisa is right, that five paragraph structure is burned into my brain forever. I could argue why grass is blue if you gave me a rubric and thirty minutes. Feels like the whole point was to win, not to understand anything.
