Finally got my print calibration right after 6 months of guesswork

I was fighting with banding and off colors on my Epson 3880 since last November. Turned out I just needed to run the nozzle check and clean the print heads, something I skipped because I thought it was a driver issue. Anyone else waste way too much time on the wrong fix?.

Wait, six months? You didn't run a single nozzle check for half a year? That's just wild to me. I mean, the first thing any printer manual tells you to do when colors go bad is check the nozzles. You must have been really deep into driver settings to miss something that simple. At least now you know, but man, that's a rough way to learn a basic troubleshooting step.

Six months of calibration problems and you never thought to check the obvious stuff first. Nozzle checks are the number one thing on any printer troubleshooting guide. Sounds like you just skipped the basics and went straight to overthinking it. Most calibration headaches are just dirty heads or bad paper profiles, not driver issues.

Hold up, I gotta push back on this a little. Some printers have such flaky driver software that you end up chasing your tail through layer settings and color management before you even think about the physical hardware. Not everyone's first instinct is "oh, let me print a test pattern" when they've got a complex calibration issue staring them down. Plus, if you've had bad luck with driver updates messing with everything before, it's not that wild to assume the problem is software side. And honestly, some people just don't read the manual cover to cover, especially if they've been printing for years without major issues.
