Vent: so many new stylists are overlathering during color services

At my salon in Austin last week, I watched three different assistants apply color with so much foam that it dripped down clients' necks. All that extra suds actually lifts the cuticle too much and makes the color fade way faster, like within two weeks tops. I learned this the hard way back in cosmetology school when my instructor pulled me aside and showed me how a thin, even coat sticks better and lasts longer. Has anyone else noticed this trend with the newer folks coming in?

oh man i watched a girl at my last job dump so much purple shampoo on a blonde that the foam turned into a waterfall on the floor. the client's roots were splotchy within a week. it's like they think more product equals better coverage but really it just pushes color around and messes up your saturation. the thin coat thing is real and it's wild that newer people don't catch it faster.

My friend Sarah used to work at a salon and she told me about this one girl who dumped a whole bottle of purple toner on a client's hair... like the entire thing. The foam was dripping down her neck and onto the floor, and the client ended up with these weird gray streaks that wouldn't wash out for weeks. She said the poor girl kept thinking more product would fix the brassiness but it just made everything worse. It's crazy how hard that thin coat lesson is for some people to learn.
