Unpopular take: I stopped doing free touch-ups for regulars and lost 4 clients

I know the advice is to keep them happy so they book again, but last month in Denver I had a woman come in 3 weeks after her balayage complaining about brassiness that was clearly from her hard water. I fixed it for free, then she brought a friend expecting the same deal and got upset when I quoted $45. Has anyone else drawn that line and regretted it or was it just me?
