Took me 3 months to figure out why my color clients kept fading so fast, and it was the dumbest thing
I had this one client, Sarah, who comes in every 6 weeks for a red refresh, and her color was washing out by week 2 every single time. I blamed her shampoo, then her water, then I switched her to a different developer, then I tried a bond builder, and nothing worked for about 3 months of me guessing. Turns out I was rinsing her with water that was way too hot after processing, which was opening the cuticle back up and letting everything bleed out. Now I do a cool rinse for the last 2 minutes and she's holding color past week 5. Anyone else have a basic step in their routine they completely overlooked for way too long?
Oh man I feel this in my soul. Three months of guessing and it ends up being something that simple is so frustrating but also such a relief when it finally clicks. I did something kinda similar where I kept blaming products for flaky color and it turned out I was just being lazy about my rinse temp too. You get so focused on the chemicals and the formulas that you forget the basics can mess everything up. Glad Sarah is finally holding her red past week five, that must feel amazing after all that time scratching your head.
