TIL my client's hair was breaking from a protein overload I didn't spot
She came in for a color refresh after six months, but her ends felt like straw and snapped when I combed through a small section. Turns out she'd been using a heavy protein mask twice a week since her last visit, thinking it was just deep conditioning. Has anyone else seen this kind of damage from at-home overuse of protein treatments?

Oh man, that's the classic "more is better" home care trap right there. People get one good result from a protein treatment and then decide to mainline it like it's going out of style. Ends up making the hair so stiff and brittle it just gives up and snaps. It's a tough lesson for a client to learn the hard way. Gotta love when they don't mention their new at-home routine until AFTER you find the damage. Balancing moisture back into that hair is going to be a long road now.

Protein overload gets blamed too much sometimes. My hair actually thrives on daily protein conditioners and hydrolyzed wheat sprays. It's not about avoiding protein, it's about using the right kind for your hair's porosity. Maybe the real issue is using heavy reconstructors on low porosity strands that can't absorb them. What protein products have worked for you long term?

Yeah, that protein overload is brutal to fix. I feel for anyone stuck in that cycle.
