The grey toner I bought for my clients took 2 hours longer than expected

I picked up a new grey toner from the beauty supply store in Westchester last Friday and tried it on a client with resistant grey hair. After waiting the recommended 30 minutes the roots still looked yellow, so I left it on for another 90 minutes before it finally took. Has anyone else had a toner take way longer than the bottle says for stubborn greys?

Wait... did you process it on dry hair or wet hair? I found that makes a huge difference with stubborn greys, like the toner grabs way faster when the hair's more porous. Also what brand was it... I had a similar issue with one from the supply shop in Torrance where it just would not take unless I bumped up the developer volume a bit.

Hold up. Did you check the developer was fresh? Maybe the toner's fine but the chems are off.
