Talked myself out of buying a nicer shears for 3 years, finally caved and regret waiting

I always thought expensive shears were just for show. Been using a $40 pair from the beauty supply store since I graduated cosmetology school in 2019. Finally broke down and bought a pair of Joewell Cobalt shears last month after my coworker let me borrow hers for a day. Huge mistake waiting so long. The difference in wrist fatigue alone is insane, I can actually get through a full day of cuts without my hand cramping up. Has anyone else put off upgrading something basic like this and then felt dumb after?

wait you honestly thought expensive shears were just for show? lol i kinda did too until i borrowed a buddy's Mizutani for a weekend. my hand didn't ache at all after like 8 haircuts in a row, and my cuts were way cleaner too. now i feel dumb for all those years i spent fighting with cheap ones and blaming my technique.

Notice this happens in a lot of trades, not just hair. People figure they can get by with the cheapest version of something and it just wears them down over time. My husband used a $15 hammer for fifteen years before someone gave him a proper one with a shock-absorbing handle. Now his elbow doesn't ache after a day of framing. We get used to discomfort because we don't want to spend the money, but then we end up paying for it in other ways.
