Spent an entire morning trying to get a stubborn toner to lift from a client's old box dye

The level 5 ash just would not budge, even after 40 minutes with a clarifying treatment. Ended up doing a gentle color remover for 15 minutes first, which finally did the trick. Anyone have a better method for dealing with really stubborn direct dye?

Try a vitamin C powder mix next time.
