Showerthought: I just realized I've done 500 root touch-ups since opening my chair.
It hit me when I was counting my color tubes for reorder, and that number made me wonder if anyone else has a service they do so often it becomes almost automatic.

Counting tubes is a weird way to see your own work history laid out like that. It makes me wonder if the muscle memory ever gets so strong that you do it in your sleep. There's probably a point where your hands just know the steps and your brain checks out to think about dinner. That automatic feeling must be both a blessing and a curse after a while.

Muscle memory kicks in hard after the first thousand tubes. Your hands just go through the motions while your mind wanders to weekend plans. That autopilot mode is great for getting through a long shift without burning out. The curse hits when you need to focus on a new task and your brain is still stuck on repeat. I keep a notepad nearby to jot down random thoughts that pop up during those automatic stretches. How do you pull your focus back when you zone out too deep?

That notepad trick is smart. @robinl90 might be onto something about doing it in your sleep. What's the weirdest thing you've ever caught yourself doing on total autopilot?
