Serious question, did anyone else think the whole 'scalp massage before a cut' thing was just fluff?

I worked at a chain salon in Tampa for 2 years and we were told to do a 2 minute scalp massage on every client. I thought it was a total waste of time, just a gimmick to make the service seem fancier. Then I started at a small boutique place last month where the owner, Maria, showed me her client notes. She pointed out that 8 out of 10 of her regulars who get the massage book their next appointment 3 weeks sooner than the ones who skip it. She said it genuinely relaxes them and builds a real connection, which I guess I can see now. Has anyone else tracked something like this with their own clients?

Yep, I was that cynical stylist too.

Oh man, I totally get that. I used to think it was just a silly extra step too. But you're right, that connection really does make a difference in how people feel about coming back.

Right, like pretending you care actually makes you care? Been there. @the_ray probably still rolls their eyes at themselves from back in the day. But yeah, that five second "how was your week" chat really does trick people into thinking we're friends.
