My mentor told me to stop using alcohol-based sprays for volume and I was salty about it for weeks
My old instructor from beauty school said alcohol sprays dry out hair and ruin elasticity over time. I thought she was just being old school but I kept having clients come back with breakage after 3 months. Finally switched to a water-based foam for root lifting and the difference is crazy. Hair holds curl way longer and feels softer too. Has anyone else noticed this with their clients or is it just me?

I felt that "salty about it for weeks" part too hard. I was the same way when my mentor told me to ditch alcohol sprays, thought she was just hating on my routine. But yeah, once I actually switched to a water-based foam I noticed the same thing - way less breakage and the curls actually last.

Wait, has anyone else had a friend who just would NOT listen about product swaps?
Yeah, @ivancoleman my buddy Marcus was the same way with his hair routine. Used this cheap spray with alcohol for like two years. Kept saying it gave him volume. But his ends were always fried and curly bits just fell flat by lunch.
One day his girlfriend just threw it out and bought him a water-based mousse. He was furious for a whole week. Wouldn't talk to her about it.
Then after a month he texted me a photo of his curls looking perfect at 5 PM. He never went back. Now he tells everyone about the swap like he discovered it himself. Funny how that works.
