My boss told me flat irons don't need cleaning and now I'm dealing with buildup nightmares

Last month my salon manager said just wipe the plates with a cloth and that's enough. I followed her advice for 3 weeks on a Bio Ionic and now I've got this sticky residue burning off on every client's hair. She saw the smoke today and finally admitted she was wrong. Anyone else have a coworker give bad care tips that cost you time or money?

OH man that is SO frustrating! I had a coworker tell me to use fabric softener on my curling iron plates to make them "glide better" and I ruined THREE client's hair before I realized what was happening. That sticky residue you're dealing with is the WORST because it literally bakes into every strand and makes everything look greasy and dull. I ended up having to buy a whole new flat iron because no amount of alcohol or plate cleaner could get that gunk off. Your boss should honestly reimburse you for wasting three weeks of your time and product.

Ugh that's rough. Totally feel for you on this. @nora735 is right about the fabric softener story that's insane people actually do that. Hope you can get that Bio Ionic cleaned up or replaced without too much hassle.
