Just realized I disagree with the push for 'natural' texture in every cut

I heard a stylist at a Miami salon say 'sleek, smooth hair is outdated' and it made me think. I've had three clients this month ask for that lived-in, messy look, but some hair types just look better with a sharp, clean finish. Has anyone else had clients request a style that doesn't actually suit their hair?

Remember when everyone wanted that beach wave perm? I had a client with super fine, straight hair who insisted on it, and it just went limp and weird after two days. Sometimes the trend just fights what you've got to work with.

Did you try to talk them out of it first, or did they just push ahead anyway? I always wonder if people know their hair just can't handle certain styles. It seems like a waste of money and time when it's doomed from the start.

Walked into the salon after they already had the perm rods in. They were dead set on looking like they just stepped off a yacht in the 70s. I asked if they'd ever had any chemical service before and they said "just box dye." That hair was so fragile it practically dissolved under the solution. It took three conditioning treatments just to get it to hold a curl for a single day.
