Is it worth charging for a 5 minute bang trim or doing it free to keep folks happy?
Took me 40 minutes to fix a walk-in bang trim in Dallas last week because she said "just a little off" four times, and now I can't decide if free bang trims build loyalty or just train people to expect free work, so what do you all do?
Free bang trims are a trap and I don't care who disagrees with me on this. You spent 40 minutes on a "5 minute" trim, which means you basically paid her to sit in your chair and second guess you. There's no way she walked out of there feeling more loyal to you than she would have if you'd charged $10 and had her in and out in ten minutes. What's really happening is you're teaching every client that bangs are a free add on forever, and then when you finally start charging, you're the bad guy. Making it cheap, like 10 or 15 bucks, keeps it worth your time but still feels easy for them. Free doesn't buy loyalty, it just buys people who show up expecting free stuff.
