A client's comment made me rethink how I apply highlighter
I had a woman in her 60s come in for a full face last week and she told me my highlight was making her look 'shiny like a glazed donut' lol. At first I was kind of offended but then I looked at what I did and she was right. I was using this liquid highlighter with big shimmer particles and putting it all over her cheekbones and cupids bow. Now I switched to a cream highlighter with a more subtle pearl finish and I only tap it on the very top of the cheekbone near the eye. The difference is crazy it looks way more natural and skin like. Has anyone else had a client totally call them out on a technique that made you change your whole approach?

Honestly I kinda disagree. Some people actually like that glazed donut look if you lean into it right. Not every highlight has to be subtle and natural, different strokes for different folks you know?

Yeah "different strokes for different folks" is the key thing here. I feel like everywhere you look now people are trying to put everything into boxes and say there's only one right way to do stuff. Like with food, people get mad if you put ketchup on a hot dog but man, just let people enjoy things. Same with music or even how people decorate their houses. We've gotten so obsessed with telling everyone what's cool or not cool that we forget life is more fun when you just do what makes you happy. The glazed donut look is bold and if someone rocks it with confidence then honestly that's way better than playing it safe and looking like everyone else.
