A bridal party in Nashville taught me to bring backup scissors

Ten days ago I was doing updos for a wedding party of 6 and my favorite shears just locked up mid-cut on the third bride. I had to borrow a pair from the venue's in-house stylist and it took me twice as long to finish. Do any of you carry spare cutting tools in your kit for situations like this, or am I just paranoid now?

Yep, this exact thing happened to me at a prom gig back in May. My go-to pair just snapped clean at the hinge in the middle of the fifth updo, and I spent twenty minutes digging through my bag while the girl's mom stared daggers at me. Turns out I had a cheap folding pair in the bottom pocket that I forgot I even owned, and they got the job done, just slower. Now I keep two working pairs in my kit no matter what, plus a tiny screwdriver set just in case. A locked up shear is not something you can fix on the fly unless you happen to carry the exact right tool, and I learned that the hard way.

Do you really think carrying backup tools is going to save you when your main pair just gives out for no reason? Honestly, I'd say you're wasting space in your kit worrying about a one-in-a-hundred thing that a quick fix like a spare screw or a good cleaning can solve.
