So my neighbor said my container house looked like a shipping yard
I spent 8 months building my container home out in Tucson and thought it looked great. Then my neighbor Frank, who's a retired architect, walked over and said 'you know that corrugated steel look is fine but your place screams industrial yard right now.' He pointed out that I left all the shipping markings and logos visible on the outside. I never even thought about that. So I spent about $600 on sandblasting and priming the whole exterior to get rid of the old numbers and logos. Then I painted it a warm sage green instead of keeping it raw steel. Frank was right, it went from looking like a cargo container to actually looking like a home. Has anyone else dealt with neighbors giving unsolicited advice that ended up being totally useful?

Nah that's actually solid advice. But I gotta say something about the sandblasting. You couldve just pressure washed it and used a good metal primer instead of dropping $600 on sandblasting. That stuff will etch the surface enough to hold paint just fine. Sandblasting is overkill for container homes unless you got serious rust issues. Sounds like your neighbor was right about the markings though. I see too many container builds that look exactly like what they are just painted a different shade of rust.

@noah_black You nailed it, pressure washing and primer wouldve done the same job for way less cash lol.
