Why does nobody talk about how hue contrast dies on cheap monitors

I spent almost 3 days tweaking a palette for a client site, only to find the whole thing looked washed out on their office Dell monitor. Turns out my two accent colors, a dusty teal and a muted coral, had nearly identical luminance values. It took me another 6 hours and a color blindness simulator to realize I needed to check contrast in grayscale first. Has anyone else had a palette that looked great on your screen but fell apart on a cheaper display?
